Hendrik Hegray’s artistic practice includes a variety of mediums such as drawing, music, performance, photography, video and sculpture.
Fond of the graphic design and underground drawing related movements established at the end of the 90’s, he published numerous confidential fanzines, involving himself in the self-publishing field. He also released books with publishers Nieves and Orbe, and works occasionally with Julien Carreyn or Héléna Villovitch. With Jonas Delaborde, he created Nazi Knife magazine in 2006 (Paraguay Publishing recently released the 11th issue) and False Flag in 2010. These publications extend far beyond the strict framework of drawing, to approach and explore the potential of photography, sculpture or collage. These practices converge in the work of Hendrik Hegray, alongside research in music and performance as the sonic reflection of his visual experiments.
He exhibited, played, performed in several places in France, Belgium, Italy, USA, Japan, Australia, Thailand, Egypt… He plays under the moniker Z.B. Aids a.k.a. Valerie Smith and also performed with Lili Reynaud-Dewar. He has founded the label Premier Sang in 2009.
He’s represented by Galerie Valeria Cetraro , Paris.
